Collaborators
At the heart of The Breath Of First Fields is a long-term collaboration between agricultural engineer Kübra Elmas and Canadian photographer and journalist Spencer Wynn. Developed through ongoing fieldwork across southeastern Türkiye, the project explores the landscapes surrounding some of humanity’s earliest settled communities within the Euphrates basin.
The work focuses on continuity — cultivated land, water systems, labour, memory, and the enduring relationship between people and place.
Drawing on Kübra Elmas's deep knowledge of the region's agricultural systems and communities, and Spencer Wynn's background in photography and visual storytelling, the project brings together lived experience, research, writing, and image-making in a shared exploration of land and duration across the Şanlıurfa plateau and surrounding region.
